History
How it all began...
In 2020 the world was turned upside down, especially in the rooms of alcoholics anonymous. That desire for in person meetings was stronger than ever, we could not meet in the rooms due to restrictions from the pandemic. Meeting rooms were shutting down due to Covid 19, a group of drunks calling themselves misfits got together and started holding meetings outside in the park, even taking meetings to members' backyards.
That desire to stay sober was stronger than ever for people in the rooms. In August of 2020, sitting at a Starbucks with another person in recovery we talked about how we were not getting what we needed from our home groups. Because we loved our sobriety and we were willing to do whatever it took, the seed was planted. The two added a third and started discussing a new group. We sat down and discussed the types of meetings, just getting the beginning started. We discussed different names for the group, then it was said “AA is full of Second Chance people”. That became the birth of the Second Chance Group. We started reaching out to others that loved their sobriety as much as we did. Even though the three of us planted the seed, all the founding members started a group that people could feel wanted. Each member was involved in constructing the group from by-laws to the meeting formats.
On January 2, 2021 Second Chance held its first official meeting.
They say in the rooms all you need is resentment and a coffee pot to start a group. Second Chance Group was started because we loved our sobriety, we were willing to go outside the box, to take a risk for a new beginning. What a gift we were given, a gift beyond our dreams.
